Can You Really Tighten Your Skin without Opting for Surgery?

As soon as we hit the 30 mark, if not sooner, we start to see our skin sag and loosen. There are lots of non-surgical treatments out there that claim they can help you tighten your skin. But just how genuine are these treatments? Can skin tightening Orange County clinics really make you look youthful again without going under the knife?

First, you must understand that some skin tightening procedures are only semi non-invasive. They use lasers that hit the subcutaneous layers of the skin. This is the most up to date technology and it has shown some truly impressive results.

How Does it Work?

Older skin becomes less elasticated skin. It is the elasticity that ensures our skin stays in place. Compare it to a rubber band. When you first get it, it is tight and tiny. Over time, however, the band becomes looser and doesn’t quite return to that original tightness. This is what happens to our skin as well.

Skin is made tight by collagen and elastin, deep inside the lower skin levels. If collagen can be heated to 66C, it contracts, causing the skin to tighten. Noticeable effects take many months, but it can be done. In fact, this is precisely what skin tightening procedures do.

They achieve this through a variety of methods. This can include:

  • Radiofrequency energy
  • Infrared energy
  • A combination of the two.

Is it Effective?

It has been scientifically proven that these treatments do work. However, you will usually need around four treatments that are about five weeks apart. Realistically, no more than 20% to 30% of wrinkle reduction can be achieved on average.

What about the Costs?

The cost of skin tightening procedures varies. On average, a single treatment is $1,000, and if someone wants to have four treatments, it would be reduced to $3,500. However, this does depend on the clinic.

What Will Be Next?

It is believed that the next big thing will be laser liposuction. Preliminary results have been very positive and show that it not only helps to dissolve fat, but to tighten skin as well. The treatment is still very new, so no accurate data in terms of percentages exists yet. However, those who have used it say the results were visible almost instantly and that they lasted for eight months, which is longer than with other types of treatments.

Unfortunately, ageing is a fact of life and nobody can escape Father Time, as that is now how Mother Nature intended it. However, there are plenty of things you can do to slow things down and to keep your youthful appearance for that little bit longer. Skin tightening procedures work really well, although they can be a bit costly for what is essentially a temporary result. However, no amount of plastic surgery at present can deliver permanent results, and it is certainly true that skin tightening is the most effective and the least painful of them all.
