A Harvard University study has found that high blood pressure contributes to more than 15% of deaths in the United States. The health issue is unfortunately a silent killer, as there are no symptoms and it can lead to a heart attack, stroke, aneurysm, kidney failure and cognitive decline. We are therefore looking at 6 ways to lower your blood pressure.
- Eat Less Salt
Too much salt (sodium) can cause high blood pressure. What’s more, the elderly and African Americans are also more sensitive to salt, which can raise their blood pressure. Yet, there is no way to tell if one individual is sodium sensitive, which is why everyone should attempt to lower their sodium intake as much as possible.
Consume no more than 1,500mg per day of sodium for low blood pressure – which is half the average intake for Americans. To put this into perspective, half a teaspoon contains 1,200mg of sodium.
- Enjoy a Power Walk
Exercise is an effective way to lower blood pressure, as it allows the heart to use more oxygen, which means it doesn’t have to try too hard to pump blood around your body. Aim to go on a power walk for at least 30 minutes each day, and increase your speed to routinely challenge your heart.
- Eat Potassium-Rich Foods
Potassium-rich foods can help to lower your blood pressure, so consume more potatoes, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, bananas, kidney beans, orange juice, peas, melon and dried fruits. Try to eat between 2,000 to 4,400mg of potassium every day.
- Use Hemp CBD Oil
There are a multitude of reasons to try Cloud 9 hemp CBD oil, which offers the health benefits of medical marijuana but without the high. This legal ejuice can be an effective treatment option for lowering blood pressure. Not only that, but it can also reduce anxiety and stress, which can each contribute to high blood pressure.
- Treat Yourself to Dark Chocolate
A little dark chocolate has been proven to decrease blood pressure. One study found that 18% of patients who ate dark chocolate each day witnessed a drop in their blood pressure. This is because it contains flavanols that create elastic blood vessels to lower blood pressure. Treat yourself to half an ounce daily and ensure it is made from at least 70% cocoa.
- Drink a Small Amount of Alcohol
You might be surprised to find that a little alcohol can go a long way in lowering your blood pressure. It’s thought that 12 ounces of beer, 5 ounces of wine or 1.5 ounces of spirits can help you achieve a healthy blood pressure rate. While other studies have found that one drink for a woman per day and two drinks for a man per day can also lower the risk of heart disease. However, drink alcohol in moderation or it may be detrimental to your health.
As you can see, there are many ways to decrease your blood pressure, and the above tips are sure to help. If in doubt, discuss your options with a doctor.
