5 Tips For Handling Anxiety

Anxiety

Most people with anxiety can agree that there’s no way to truly describe it to someone who has never experienced it. While the intensity varies from person to person, it’s still a very unpleasant state which leaves people feeling uneasy and out of control with their emotions.

Sometimes it flares up without any trigger at all leaving a person feeling helpless often in moments they least expect it.  To take control of your life and try to beat anxiety, try these tips.

Talk To Your Doctor

The first thing that you should do is speak to a professional who can help you find forms of treatment.  Since there are many options available to you from therapy to medication, your doctor can help explain how each one works.

Once your doctor makes an official diagnosis, you can at least have the peace of mind knowing that these moments of extreme emotional distress are not your fault or a result of anything you’ve done.  It’s a medical condition which hundreds of thousands of people suffer from every day.

Your doctor may even have suggestions for you of how to connect with others who are going through the same thing.  Often people find comfort surround themselves with people how can identify with their condition.

Cut Out Substances

A lot of anxiety sufferers find their symptoms increase when they consume substances.  Eliminating things like smoking and alcohol can be a huge benefit to your overall state of mind.

Since substances often increase heart rate and blood pressure, it doesn’t do you any favors when you’re in a state of heightened stress.  Try cutting out substances for at least two weeks and see if you notice an improvement.

Get Exercise

Building up a lot of energy throughout the day can lead to feeling like you’ve got pent up stress.  Without anywhere to put this energy, you’ll find yourself more susceptible to anxiety.

Starting an invigorating workout routine which gets your heart rate up and your body moving can be a great way to reduce your stress levels.  Some people find that it’s so effective, they no longer require medication. They prefer going for a long run over taking pills since it’s natural and has the same effect on their emotions.

Practice Meditation

Taking the time to practice meditation every day is proven to help your mind get to a calmer state of mind.

By silencing out the chatter inside your mind which tells you that you should stress or that you’re in danger, you’re in a much calmer state throughout the day as a result.

Surround Yourself With People That Love You

When you are surrounded by people who criticize and put you down, you’re more likely to fall into self-destructive patterns.

Creating a group of people around you who are loving and understanding of you can make a significant improvement to your state of mind.  Give yourself the gift of self-love by demanding only to surround yourself with loving people.
