A new Banksy, depicting an image of a young boy wearing a sports visor backwards as he works on stitching some bunting on an old fashioned sewing machine, has popped up in North London. Although the piece, which appeared by the Poundland store on Turnpike Lane early yesterday morning, has not officially been confirmed to be a Banksy, it has been suggested by the good people over at Hooked Blog that the location of the piece coupled with the style and cut of the stencil may indicate that it does indeed belong to the renowned artist. Like many of his other pieces, it follows suit in providing underlying social commentary, possibly making reference this time to the upcoming Olympics, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations and child labour (Poundland launched an inquiry in 2010 after a seven year old boy was found to be working 100 hours a week in an Indian sweatshop, earning 7 pence an hour to make napkin rings which were to be sold at the budget shop for a pound a pop).
